Abstract

Russian involvement in the 2016 US election and President Trump’s arsenal of tweets barely hint at the ways in which social media now plays a role in our national security. Nation-state spheres of influence extend far and wide through social media, and their tactics are devious and diverse. This talk will show how social media is a platform for crime, espionage, propaganda, terrorism and war.Learning Objectives:1: Learn about the weaponization of social media by nation-state actors.2: Understand how senior US government officials were compromised via social media.3: Learn how best to protect social media accounts, even from advanced hackers.
